ON THE GO 2013 January thru June On Sunday 1/13/2013 we drove east from Naples on the Tamiami Trail to the Ochobee Post Office.
We continued to Turner River Road and saw many alligators and birds and a python (that the state wants to eradicate from Florida). Had lunch at the Rod and Gun Club in Everglades City. Here are some pics. On 1/16/2013 we had dinner at Bayside in Naples with Jan Pollnow and his brother-in-law Chuck. Georgia did not feel well so their wives did not join us. Don hired Jan from the University of Wisconsin to be an actuarial student. Jan was the first student that Don hired who became a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries. Jan worked at Hartford Life for 29 years. He then worked for First Colony Life in Lynchburg, VA and its successors for 11 more years. Jan and Georgia live on a lake in a golfing community in West End, North Carolina ... about 75 miles SW of Raleigh.
Mary Chuck Chuck Jan Don Jan On 1/22/2013 Rhoda Bannon brought Lisa Blumberg to Florida for her annual visit. They stayed their first two nights on Sanibel Island. Then Lisa spent two nights with her father and step mother, but Rhoda stayed with us on the 24th and 25th. Here is Mary and Rhoda leaving Steamers on the 24th.
On Sunday January 27 we went to the Boat House in Naples for lunch with two birds.
In January 2013 two eagles were hatched in FT Myers. See http://www.ustream.tv/SouthwestFloridaEagleCam and also https://www.facebook.com/SouthwestFloridaEagleCam In February 2013 Amy, Tom, & Aleksey visited us in Naples, FL for one week. They flew into FT Lauderdale and we met them in Key Largo the next day. We chartered a 50 foot ketch in Key Largo for a four hour sail and snorkel trip. The next day we drove to Naples and stopped at the Anhinga Trail in the Everglades National Park and saw many alligators and birds. We had our traditional Sunday Brunch at the Turtle Club. They spent one day at Sanibel Island. Tom went golfing the last day they were here with one of Don's bridge partners (Bob Levering) while Amy and Aleksey took a three hour kayaking eco tour in Estero. Sunday February 24, 2013 we met the "Burton" twins (Dulcy & Doris). for brunch in FT Myers. We then went to Dulcy's lovely apartment for a visit. Dulcy's daughter, Gail Winans from the Atlanta area is here for a week's visit. It may have been as long ago as Gail's honeymoon in Naples that we saw Gail.

We have a bunch of White Ibis who feed on the lawn by our condo each day.
Sunday March 3, 2013. We finally attended our first (and last) Swamp Buggy Race today. We even sat in the VIP section so we had all the pulled pork, baked beans, coleslaw, and beer we could drink. They offer prizes to the Red Neck Yacht CLUB! There were lots of Harley Davidson and Jesus first tee shirts. Here are many pictures.
Mary Towne & Betty Jo Crosby Chi Omega roommates University of Michigan Turtle Club Naples, Florida March 29, 2013 On Sunday April 7, 2013 we had lunch with Dave and Fran Wakely at the Crow's Nest in Venice, FL, midway between Naples and their home in Bellaire, Florida. We then stopped to see Barbara Elden in Venice. Roy died a few weeks ago.
On Friday March 12, 2013 we had dinner at Escargot 41 with one of Don's bridge partners, Bob Levering, and his friend Janis Click.

Aleksey will be a senior next year at Franklin Academy. See "The Phoenix Spark".
On May 10, 2013 we drove to West Hartford, CT to see Erin (below, center) in a musical.
May 11 we attended a "rememberance" celebration for David Principe's parents. They would have been 70 this year. Betty died at age 49 and John died at age 61. We then had a Mother's Day Brunch at Amy's on May 12, 2013.
After Brunch, Aleksey finished building a ramp to the relocated shed that Tom and Don designed.:
On Saturday May 18, 2013 we attended a graduation celebration dinner for granddaughter Sara Whitney (below). See slide show. As Mary's back was acting up we had to cancel our flight to San Francisco to see Kyle Sondergeld graduate from High School.
Don's neighbor, Phil Rollman and daughter Riley were in Vermont the first weekend in June. . . They admired the extension Don made to one of his gardens.
. Don wanted a large Inukshuk. He bought granite at Champlain Stone in NY for $80 on Tuesday June 4, 2013. See many references to these stone cairns built by Innuits. Here is his small one below and the new much larger one he designed on the right: The larger one was then moved up on the ridge along Birch Road by the J D Principe International Moving Company Ltd.
On June 7, 2013 we had a terrific lunch at the Brandon Music Cafe with super people: Arnold and Mildred Abelson.. On June 8 we went to Burlington for Simon William Breck Mendenhall's Bar Mitzvah. See Slide Show.
Stan and Harriet Joseph are between Florida and Idaho. They were on their way from Quebec City and Montreal to visit son Richard and family in Hanover, NH. We met them at Pauline's Restaurant in S Burlington, VT for a 2 hour lunch. A fun time to swap lies. .
On Saturday June 22, 2013 we drove to West Hartford CT to attend Aleksey Magno's 18th birthday party. See Slides.
