ON THE GO 2014  January thru June

On January 2 it is zero degrees F and snowing lightly.  We can still see Eagle Rock across our lake.  Will be nice to fly to Naples, FL tomorrow as the high is expected to be minus 5 degrees F here in Hubbardton, VT.

However on January 27, 2014 we missed a nice sunset at Beebe Pond in Hubbardton, Vermont.  See slide show.

Rhoda Bannon came to Florida with Lisa Blumberg for five days and spent 3 nites at Sanibel Island.  Then Lisa spent 2 nights at her father's home on Seagate ant Rhoda spent 2 nights with us.  We had dinner on January 27 with them at Steamers, a neighborhood seafood restaurant.   Here is Mary and Rhoda on January 28.

Our last night with Tom, Amy, and Aleksey was at     H B's On The Gulf where we enjoyed a lovely sunset during dinner.

On Sunday February 16 we had lobster salad and lobster bisque at Handsome Harry's on Third Street in Naples.

On Saturday March 1 we took a two hour Tram Tour in Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park. It is Florida's largest, with 85,000 acres, in Copeland FL, 5 miles north of the intersection of Route 41 and Route 29. We were told that Fred Fungus and Alice Algae "lichen" each other. We then had lunch at City Seafood on the Baron River in Everglades City.  We stopped at the Big Cypress Bend Boardwalk,  about 5 miles west of the Route 41 and Route 29 intersection and saw two Bald Eagles nesting.

On Sunday March 2 we drove to Sanibel Island to Doc Ford's Rum Bar and Grille for  lunch and a book signing.  The owner of the restaurant is Randy Wayne White who has written many books, including 21 "Doc Ford Novels".  Bone Deep is his latest Doc Ford book.

After lunch we drove thru the J N Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge and saw many white pelicans.  It is world famous for its spectacular migratory bird populations. The toll is $6 for the bridge from Ft Myers to Sanibel Island.

On Wednesday March 12 we had the usual terrific meal at Andres: tomatoes and onions, spinach, and a huge porterhouse steak. Andre has been in Naples since 1993.

We eat out a lot.  Here is Don at our favorite local seafood restaurant: STEAMER's:

Eric, Cindy & Alexei visited us for five days in March in Naples. (Turtle Club for lunch & rowing on the Gordon River)

On Friday April 4, 2014 Mary attended a luncheon for one of her bridge groups at Kensington CC in Naples.  Mary and Janet Adams (white sweater white hair) were in third place for the season.  This picture demonstrates that "beauty" is "ageless" if you are a bridge player.

On Saturday, Don played bridge with Frank Hacker, from Barre VT and FT Myers FL  We had a nice dinner at Bayside.  Here are Mary and Frank outside the restaurant.

On Sunday April 26, 2014 we met Dave and Fran Wakely for lunch at the Crow's Nest in Venice, a 100 minute drive for each of us between Naples and Bellaire.  We also saw two Sandhill Cranes.

Sunday May 11, 2014 was Mother's Day at Beebe Pond.  Mary matches the flowers from David.

On Friday May 23, 2014 we had dinner with Steve and Sandy Earl at the Fair Haven Inn.  As we were in Fair Haven, Don borrowed a metal detector from George Stannard a surveyor.  Don and Mary used to play bridge against George and his mother Hazel.  Don then easily  found a surveyor's stake on the NW corner of our property, that Don buried 48 years ago, ten inches below the surface of his driveway.

On Saturday May 31, 2014 we attended  Aleksey Magno's High School Graduation.

On Monday June 9, 2014 we met Stan and Harriet Joseph at the Mountain Top Inn for a two hour lunch. This lovely spot is where we celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary seven years ago.  It is located about midway between Hubbardton, VT and Hanover, NH where they are visiting son Richard and family.

On Saturday June 14, 2014 we celebrated Mary's 80th birthday (which was June 11).  We recreated her 70th birthday celebration at  Beebe Pond with a tent, catering by Plan-It-Sheri and a DJ.  Mary's wicked stepmother had a bad back, so did not come from Waterville, Maine.  She is also celebrating a decennial birthday - her 90th.  The only grandchild not in attendance was Sara Whitney who has been traveling in South America.
