ON THE GO 2012 January thru June
In February 2012 Amy, Aleksey, and Tom visited us in Naples, Florida for four days. Amy and Aleksey kayaked at Isle of Capri. We then dined at Michelbob's. We took a boat trip out of Everglades City and had lunch at the Rod and Gun Club. The next day we rented a deck boat, went to Keywadin Island, and saw many ospreys and dolphins. We then had lunch at The Turtle Club.
On Friday March 16, 2012 we had dinner in Naples with Sandy, Steve, Hilda, and Joe.
Sandy and Steve Earl plus Sandy's sister Hilda and husband Joe.
Mary's brother, Dr. John Towne and his wife Connie visited us in Naples, FL March 26 -29, 2012. We played tennis, bridge, visited the Naples Botanical Garden, ate out, and took a boat trip out of Everglades City after lunch at the Rod and Gun Club.
Like Bob Hammon, Mary is a big money player on the bridge circuit. Two years ago Mary and Janet Adams came in first in a league in Naples Florida and won $100 each. This year they were a close second to first place and each won $75. The women had an end of the season luncheon at Kensington CC on March 30, 2012.
Sara Whitney, our second oldest grand child, a junior at the University of Vermont, is spending three months in Namibia, West South Africa. Find her in the white cashmere T shirt.
On May 2, 2012 we flew from FL to Newark, NJ. Helena Fine drove our car from Naples, FL and dropped it at a valet parking spot at Newark Airport and took the train into the city. We spent two nights at the Milford Plaza (the Lullaby of Broadway) near Times Square. We saw two terrific shows: Sister Act and Gershwin's Porgy and Bess. On May 4, we took the train from Penn Station in NY City to the Air Train to the Newark Airport and then a shuttle to valet parking. We then drove to the New Jersey Botanical Gardens in Ringwood, NJ. The Skylands manor house was in disrepair and is only open on Sunday. It was too early to see anything in the gardens except some beautiful red azaleas and some lilacs. We then spent two nights at Karla and David's. Had dinner at Karla's: (Don, Mary, Eric, Cindy, & Alexei Sondergeld), (Karla, David, Zach, Erin and Katie Principe), (Amy, Aleksey & Tom) on Friday night. On Saturday, only 9 had dinner at a restaurant. Zach was refereeing a soccer game. Amy, Aleksey and Tom were in New York preparing for a 44 mile bike ride for charity in Manhattan.
On Saturday June 9, 2012 we drove to Middletown, NY to drop Joe Wolons at his son's house so they could drive to Maryland to retrieve Joe's car that broke down on the way from Ft Lauderdale to Vermont. We continued to West Simsbury, CT and bought a Toyota Camry Hybrid at Hoffman's. We spent the night at Eric's in Canton, CT and had a cook out attended by Karla and family. The next day we attended a graveside memorial service in West Harford, CT for Brita Tate's 92 year old mother.
On Monday June 11, 2012 Mary was 78. We took the ferry to Ticonderoga, then to Hague on Lake George, where we took a back road to Friend's Lake Inn in Chestertown, NY. We were upgraded to The Great Room and had a gourmet dinner. We also took a terrific helicopter ride over Lake George and the Adirondacks. See some pictures.
On June 16, 2012 Don & Mary drove to Burlington, VT and picked up Ryan Whitney, who had flown in on Thursday from Denver to visit a buddy. We then drove to Sudbury, MA to attend a high school graduation party for his sister Caitlin who will be attending the University of Tampa this Fall.
